History
Earth Computer Technologies was originally founded in July of 1984 by Randy Schafer, to develop multiprocessor computer products and went on to be a leader in Novell networking hardware by the late 1980's including the world's first diskless P.C. in a keyboard in 1987. After reaching 8 million in sales it was acquired by a public company which faltered and sold the name back to the original founders in 1993.
In 1993 the original founder co-founded an electronics surplus company, Green Chip which had bought excess LCD's from several P.C. manufacturers and realized to make them of value needed to provide complete solutions. In response to the need we developed LCD controllers to market with LCD's in the embedded P.C. marketplace. In 1995 Green Chip split off the LCD products business to Earth Computer Technologies. Since then we have acquired over 1,000,000 LCD's and more than 400 different models.
In 2000 we introduced the VPC-2000 12 volt ATX Vehicle computer system.
Since our inception we have developed over 100 LCD related products. Our success has continued allowing us to add more engineering resources, backlight manufacturing and custom LCD services. The expanded Earth team has a passion for display technology unlike anyone in the industry. In 2001 we began offering custom display integration using the latest state of the art displays from leaders in the industry such as Sharp, NEC, LG and Samsung.
